Participatory Budgeting
In 2013, we partnered with Halifax city councillor Waye Mason to design and lead a participatory and public process, that would allow people to decide how his $94,000 discretionary budget would be spent. The actual decision making was accomplished through a public event, where citizens could vote on many projects. The process not only gave people decision making power, but it also fostered connections between residents, and informed them of the many good projects and initiatives happening in our city. The participatory budgeting process has continued to evolve and is now being adopted by several other Halifax city councillors.
